American Homeland: Season 4 Episode 1

An episode of Homeland is playing out on every news outlet right now. But it’s not in a foreign country that’s being divided by political unrest. It’s here. On American soil. Terrorists have invaded the very house our democracy lives and breathes. The current sitting president is not demanding peace or denouncing their actions. He’s encouraging it. Dare I say participating in it?

Only it’s not a fictitious Showtime show. There’s no Carrie and there’s no Saul to save our country from a domestic war. There’s no director waiting to yell cut at the end of the scene. It’s happening now, in real life. To our country. On a day that most are celebrating how democracy was demonstrated last night in the flipping of our senate via the Georgia runoff, absolute anarchy is unfolding in our nations capital.

A few months ago peaceful protests across our nation asking for equality to all Americans were treated like terroristic incidents. They were called thugs. They were shot at with tear gas and rubber bullets. Why? Because they demanded equality for all, not just white people. The president called them thugs, tweeted for their arrests, even walked out in the middle of their protests to act like a false prophet and asked his supporters to stand by.

Today, actual domestic terrorists are causing an insurrection of insurmountable contrast. Where’s the condemnation? Where’s the outcry from the right? The president is sitting in his office watching this go down. He thinks this is winning. He thinks this is democracy. He thinks he still has a chance.

This is not winning. This is not democracy. This is not the 1700s. This is 2021. This is lunacy. This is weakness. This is not America. A perfect bookend to the joke of this administration. A sad demonstration of how lies and deceit, false narratives and actual fake news create mass destruction.

I am deeply saddened that there are people in this country so unintelligent to believe that this is going to change the outcome of our democratic process. It doesn’t. We have the constitution for a reason. We have democracy for a reason. My hope for all of us feeling helpless and watching this unfold today, is that you realize the importance of your vote. Your vote matters. Believe it. Because it’s true and it does. I am thankful this nightmare will soon be over because our nation desperately needs time to heal.

  1. Erin Burnett from CNN couldn’t have said it better. If you’re an American how could you not be sickened or disheartened by what unfolded today? Our so called President not only encouraged this behavior but emboldened these despicable human beings. Who’s in charge? Not Trump. Maybe it’s better he’s not in charge. Our country is in desperate need of a leader. The last four years have been a stain on our democracy and an embarrassment of all we hold sacred as Americans. It’s time to heal.
